Our Tooth Implant Process

The dental implant procedure involves surgically planting a post or series of posts into your jaw to hold the replacement piece. You will be fitted with an abutment to attach your restoration piece to your dental post and secure it in place. Then, the dentist will place the restoration to replace any missing teeth you have and help your oral health recover.

Our goal is to help you determine your dental care goals with dental implants and help you achieve those through our in-house process. There will be no need to refer you to an outside office as we are fully equipped to handle the entire process in our office. Dr. Romano is a certified periodontist, so he has the expertise to handle implanting the posts himself and can place your restorative piece after it is made.

Different Options for Tooth Implants

When looking to replace missing teeth, you have choices depending on your situation. Dr. Romano will examine your teeth and discuss which process you have available to suit your dental needs. Some restorations available for implant tooth replacements include:

  1. Crowns: A single tooth that replaces a missing tooth to complete the tooth arch.
  2. Bridges: A set of three to four teeth placed in a row with an implant-supported crown on each end to keep the bridge in place.
  3. Dentures: Full arch or partial arch tooth replacement made with natural-looking prosthetic teeth and held securely by implant posts.
  4. All-on-4®: Full dentures replaced with four implant posts. Our dentist will evaluate your oral health to determine if you'll qualify for this option.
  5. All on X: Full arch replacement with fewer implant posts than standard implanted dentures.

Our Dental Implant Pretreatments

When preparing for a dental implant procedure, your smile needs to be ready to accept the post and restorative piece. Your oral health can affect your implant's overall success and longevity, so some additional treatments may be beneficial in optimizing your chances of adequately regaining your oral health. Some of these treatment procedures include:

  • Extractions: If you have a damaged tooth, our periodontist will remove it to alleviate health issues and make room for the dental implant.
  • Bone grafting: When you have low bone density, we can perform a graft to reinforce the jawbone and prepare your mouth for an implant post.
  • Gum treatments: Inflamed and receded gums can compromise the success of your dental implant, so we will use therapies to help repair your gums so they better accept an implanted tooth.
  • Sinus Lift: This procedure adds bone to the upper jaw in the sinus area, allowing for implant posts to be placed where there may not have been room before.

Tooth Replacement FAQs

Our team wants you to be as informed as possible when making decisions about your oral health. If you have questions or concerns about our dental implant process or our practice, please feel free to reach out, and our team will respond promptly to your inquiries. Some of the questions that you may have could be:

What if my restoration is damaged?

If your restorative piece becomes worn or damaged, our dentist will work with you to repair the damage and, if necessary, get a replacement made. With a replacement, the process is straightforward and there likely won't be any need for additional surgery.

Your implanted teeth should last for over a decade with regular care. Since the implant post integrates with the bone, it is often permanent, and only the restoration will need replacing over time.

Implant teeth are meant to be treated like your regular teeth. They need brushing and flossing regularly, and you would benefit from sticking to your regular checkups with our dentist so we can monitor your implant health.
